NIN @ AIR CANADA CENTER
I left for this concert right from work with Warren, and Jamie. We headed downtown and I smuggled a pint into the building because I felt I deserved some pay back considering they were 70$ tickets and no alcohol was served in the building. Our seats were awesome. I could easily throw a rock at the stage and knock Trent out.
The first band was Death From Above 1979. They are a really good band in a small venue but I didn’t particularly like them at this show because they just don’t have resources between the two of them to put on a good display with a stage that large. They songs are starting to sound the same to me, but I will give them another shot and points for local status.
Queens of the Stone Age were really good. They sort of have this kind of nickleback rock and roll with some pyschobilly thing going on and the singer was less then impressed that they weren’t serving liquor. He shouted out quite a few opinions about the guy who owned the building and I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t play there ever again. They had some good solos and a decent light show but it was a simple build up for NIN.
NIN was way better then I expected. I was thinking it would be a gothic - manson shit show, but alot of their newer music was extremely up beat, and even happy. I was suprised by the amount of passion Trent put into his show. He thrashed like he was 20 again. The highlight of the show for me was during the song they played off of “fragile” when they droped the lace curtain in front of the stage and played a movie reflecting amazing images like ants carrying away the dead after an onslaught and other images that made you compare and think. All and all it was a great show and watching 50 000 people smoke joints and fly lighters is always a great feeling.
