Choke Farewell
I’ll Hold These Days Forever…
It’s been thirteen years of blood, sweat, and forty-hour drives and we wouldn’t trade a moment of it for anything. However, at the beginning of May 2007 we will be hitting the road across Canada on what is to be our final tour. After a handful of videos, six full-length albums, and countless tours, stories, and new friends we have decided to officially announce the end of band.
The Choke experience has been incredibly fulfilling. Not only have we managed to skip out on working real jobs and growing up for a decade longer than what is socially acceptable but, in being given the opportunity to live out our dreams, we have experienced and enjoyed life to its fullest. Through our travels, we have explored the continent on an intimate level and have subsequently met a wealth of people of whom many are now close friends. We thank those of you who have shared unforgettable moments with us for the friendship and inspiration.
Of course we cannot forget those of you who have supported us by coming out to our shows, by buying our albums and often-ridiculous merchandise, and by writing to tell us how much our music meant to you – constant reminders of why we kept on writing albums and driving around in a rank van for so many years. Without the support, there is no way we could have made it this far. Seeing many of you grow from snot-nosed 12 year old brats at our early all-ages shows to drooling 25 year old drunks at our current bar shows makes us feel like proud older brothers. We thank you for the steadfast dedication.
In 2005, we released our crowning achievement as a band, Slow Fade: or How I Learned to Question Infinity. We feel that the album fully captured our musical ideas at the time and that there could be no higher note on which to end the band. We are extremely proud of the album and see it as the culmination of more than a decade’s hard work and musical growth.
In the end, it seems that, as is too often the case, life is getting in the way of living. It would be impossible for us to dedicate the time necessary to write another album we could be this proud of and rather than letting all we have worked for fade away, we feel that touring one last time across Canada and celebrating the last thirteen years with all of you is more befitting the end of this stage of our lives.
